Services being tested
- Completed-work invoice exception audit for commercial tree-care contractors - a fixed-price audit that compares completed job records against invoices to find work that was done but never billed. Hypothesis: trades contractors lose revenue to silent invoicing gaps, will pay a fixed fee to surface them, and a bounded one-off audit is easier to sell than a subscription or software install. Customers are reachable and already pay for software. Problem is mentioned in reviews. Unit economics present a high margin which makes email outbound positive-ROI. If enough demand, a SaaS could be built.
- PAT register rescue for testing businesses - a fixed-price cleanup of one existing appliance register, with an import-ready file and a separate exception list for duplicates, blanks and conflicting dates.
- Delivery payout reconciliation for restaurant accounting firms - a fixed-price manual pilot that turns one client's delivery-platform exports into a review-ready posting pack and a source-linked exception report.
- Outoffer - a performance-based marketplace where software companies compete to give customers the best deal. Merchants fund acquisition campaigns upfront and only pay a bounty when a verified customer genuinely pays them. Hypothesis: software companies will pay for verified customer acquisition with transparent unit economics, and a competitive deal leaderboard creates organic demand. Bounded scope: one campaign at a time, fixed bounty per verified purchase.
Failed experiments
- Voxpopli (privacy-first open source microblogging) - not a good business model for bootstrapping; community building is extremely challenging; difficult to get network effects even with good supply-side for founders.
- Popper (polymarket for falsification - conjectures and refutations web app with Ethereum bounty staking) - too esoteric and difficult to get in front of potential buyers (institutional, risk-averse); not an ideal business model for bootstrapping. Potential effective altruism-aligned funders not interested.
